February 22nd, 2025 02:32:47 EST -0500 AVO Great Sitkin ORANGE/WATCH - Slow eruption of lava within the summit crater continues, accompanied by occasional small earthquakes. Feb 21, 2025 23:57 - Activity at Great Sitkin Volcano continued over the past week, with lava erupting in the summit crater. Satellite radar data from February 21 shows continued slow growth of the lava flow toward the north-northeast. Intermittent, small volcanic earthquakes persist. A few clear views of the volcano in satellite and webcam images showed no unusual activity. Since the May 2021 explosion, there have been no other explosions at Great Sitkin Volcano. The lava eruption that began in July 2021 is ongoing. It has filled most of the summit crater and advanced into valleys below. The ... |
February 22nd, 2025 02:32:47 EST -0500 AVO Spurr YELLOW/ADVISORY - Unrest persists at Mount Spurr, with ongoing shallow earthquake activity and surface deformation. Feb 21, 2025 23:57 - NOTE: THIS IS A CORRECTION TO THE WEEKLY UPDATE TO FIX LINKS TO GRAPHICS IN THIS SECTION. Volcanic unrest continues at Mount Spurr and is characterized by ongoing earthquake activity and surface deformation. This continues the trend seen in these monitoring parameters. Over the past week 184 earthquakes were mostly located under the north side of the Spurr summit, and a lesser number located under Crater Peak. Data from GNSS stations show that outward inflation continues at about the same rate as has been occurring since spring of 2024. The Spurr monitoring ... |
February 22nd, 2025 02:32:47 EST -0500 AVO Atka volcanic complex YELLOW/ADVISORY - Brief, singular explosion on 2/20/2025 from Korovin Volcano. No ash or additional explosions detected. Seismicity remains low. Feb 21, 2025 23:57 - A small and brief explosion occurred at the Atka volcanic complex at 7:26 pm AKST on February 20 (4:26 UTC on February 21) and in response the Aviation Color Code and Volcano Alert Level were increased to ORANGE/WATCH yesterday evening. Seismicity remained very low after this event and no further explosions were detected. As a result, the Aviation Color Code and Volcano Alert Level was decreased to YELLOW/ADVISORY this morning. Further analysis of geophysical data confirms the source of the explosion as the summit lake region of Korovin Volcano, one of the volcanoes in ... |
February 22nd, 2025 02:32:47 EST -0500 HVO Kilauea ORANGE/WATCH - Kīlauea summit eruption paused at 9:18 a.m. HST, February 20. A new eruptive episode may begin no earlier than February 23 in Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. Feb 21, 2025 19:46 - Activity Summary: Kīlauea summit eruption paused as of 9:18 a.m HST on February 20. Preliminary estimates suggest a new eruptive episode may begin as early as Sunday, February 23 in Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park.Episode 10 of the ongoing Halemaʻumaʻu eruption ended abruptly at 9:18 a.m. HST on February 20 after about 13 hours of eruptive activity. Kīlauea's current eruption in Halemaʻumaʻu crater within Kaluapele (the summit caldera) began on December 23, 2024. There have been 10 episodes of lava fountaining separated by pauses in activity. All eruptive ... |
February 22nd, 2025 02:32:47 EST -0500 CVO Cascade Range GREEN/NORMAL - All volcanoes are at normal levels. Feb 21, 2025 19:24 - Activity Update: All volcanoes in the Cascade Range of Oregon and Washington are at normal background activity levels. These include Mount Baker, Glacier Peak, Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, and Mount Adams in Washington State and Mount Hood, Mount Jefferson, Three Sisters, Newberry, and Crater Lake in Oregon.Past Week Observations: During the past week, small earthquakes were detected at Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, and Mount Hood. All monitoring data are consistent with background activity levels in the Cascade Range. On Thursday, a field crew at Mount St. Helens ... |
February 22nd, 2025 02:32:47 EST -0500 NMI Ahyi Seamount YELLOW/ADVISORY - Unrest continues. Discolored water observed in satellite images from February 14-16. Feb 21, 2025 01:19 - Unrest at Ahyi Seamount continues. Hydroacoustic array data at Wake Island did not detect any activity from the direction of Ahyi, but satellite data from February 14 to 16 showed a plume of discolored water in the vicinity, indicating possible submarine activity. Similar, weak activity at Ahyi Seamount has been observed in satellite imagery off and on extending back to August 5, 2024. There are no local monitoring stations near Ahyi seamount, which limits our ability to detect and characterize volcanic unrest there. We will continue to monitor satellite and distant ... |
February 22nd, 2025 02:32:47 EST -0500 CALVO GREEN/NORMAL - CA volcanoes were at normal background levels of seismicity and deformation during the past week. Feb 18, 2025 18:57 - Monitored CALIFORNIA VOLCANOESCurrent Volcano Alert Level: all NORMALCurrent Aviation Color Code: all GREENActivity Update: All volcanoes monitored by CalVO show normal background earthquake activity and ground movement. Monitored volcanoes include Mount Shasta, Medicine Lake Volcano, Lassen Volcanic Center, Clear Lake Volcanic Field, Long Valley Volcanic Region, Coso Volcanic Field, Ubehebe Craters, and Salton Buttes.Past Week Observations for February 10 (0000h PST) to February 16 (2359h PST): Typical seismicity was recorded at The Geysers geothermal field south of the ... |

February 22nd, 2025 02:32:47 EST -0500 HVO Mauna Loa GREEN/NORMAL - No significant changes at Mauna Loa in the past month; slow inflation of the summit continues. Feb 6, 2025 20:52 - Seismicity beneath Mauna Loa's summit and upper-elevation flanks has been low over the past month; approximately 65 small-magnitude earthquakes (most below M1.5) were detected, which is expected for the post-eruption phase of this volcano and similar to the previous month.Data from Global Positioning System (GPS) instruments on Mauna Loa showed only continued minor inflation near the summit as the volcano recovers from the 2022 eruption and magma replenishes the reservoir system. Gas and temperature data from a station on Mauna Loa's Southwest Rift Zone show that H2S ... |
